tom mescher - FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR & PILOT

As a young boy, Tom's dad regularly took him for short hops around Wisconsin and Illinois. Things changed dramatically many years later when Tom’s five year old daughter inquired about an airplane ride.  She had been watching multiple aircraft in the pattern at Timmerman’s Skyroom Restaurant during lunch. Her words were; “Daddy I want you to fly the airplane”. After a hearty laugh and encouragement from his wife, Tom began flight lessons, achieving his Private Pilot Certificate and progressing to a Certified Flight Instructor Certificate within a short time. He has enjoyed the challenge of teaching others to fly ever since.

Since 2001, Tom has taught aviation enthusiasts, helping them to achieve the joy of independent safe flight. There is no experience quite like soloing an aircraft for the first time.

Tom has more than 4000 hours of flight experience, with almost half that time as an instructor. He trains in single engine Cessna and Piper aircraft. He was factory trained in Van’s light sport aircraft. He regularly uses Garmin G1000 and GTN 750 avionics.

Tom is married with four grown children and many grandchildren who have a special appreciation of aviation. For 35 plus years he and his wife have owned and operated a major appliance repair business in the Milwaukee area. In his spare time he enjoys exploring secluded waters in Upper Michigan and the Florida Panhandle.

Past Youth and Aviation Inc. volunteers have been instrumental for Tom and so many others who wanted to advance their flight training and career paths. He and the other directors are committed to pass on aviation skills and experience to future generations. Feel free to contact him with any comment or questions. mkemescher@aol.com
